Project Twin Streams

Project Twin Streams in the Rānui-Massey-Swanson area covers the stretch from the Swanson Rd bridge to the Huruhuru Creek, including the Waimoko, Paremuka, and Swanson streams. These streams were once neglected but are now being restored, thanks to the efforts of the local communities. Highlights of the project include the installation of the Te Herenga Tangata sculpture and the Te Rangi Hiroa Youth Park.

Te Ukaipo Mercy Initiatives for Rangatahi Ltd (Te Ukaipo) initially managed the Rānui-Massey-Swanson area, but the project’s contract transitioned to us (TWP) when our organisations merged in 2023. We have continued organising community events and working with local groups dedicated to maintaining different sections of the stream.

Environmental monitoring includes birdwatching and water quality assessments in collaboration with Wai Care. We offer workshops on rongoā rākau (medicinal plants) and rāranga harakeke (flax weaving), every Friday morning from 10am to noon. We value contributions from everyone and invite community involvement.
